Land

From Westport

Take the coast road to Louisburgh (10 miles), drive straight through Louisburgh and about a quarter of a mile after the village, take a right turn to Roonagh (the road is clearly signposted for Roonagh Pier and Clare Island.) It is a further 4 miles to the pier.

Bus

The closest public bus stop to Clare Island is Louisburgh. For timetables please check with Bus Eireann. You will then need to get a taxi or walk the remaining 4 miles from Louisburgh to Roonagh Pier.

O’Malley Ferries (Clare Island) Ltd run a direct bus service from Westport to Roonagh Pier to meet their sailings. The bus operates on a need only basis. Please ring +353 (98) 25045 the day before in order to book a seat on the bus.

Train

Clare Island’s nearest train station is Westport. For timetables please check Irish Rail.

Sea

To get to Clare Island you must take a ferry. In summer, there are a number of ferry sailings from Roonagh Pier to Clare Island. The boat crossing takes about 20 minutes. In the winter, there are usually four sailings a day (morning, midday mid afternoon and evening).
