Clare Island boasts a rich cultural heritage witnessed through its many craftspeople, artists, musicians and dancers.  Island traditions such as basket weaving, currach making and traditional farming are still observed. Young an old are accomplished story – tellers, singers and dancers. Recently an archive of poems, songs, stories, and music from Clare Island was compiled entitled ‘Clare Island: Out on the Ocean’. Live recordings were made capturing the rich traditions and talent of the islanders ensuring that the spirit of the island is never lost.  This archive can now be viewed in the Clare Island Library. A selection from the archive has now been publicised and is available as a book/CD pack. It is also available to purchase from Seamus Duffy’s Bookshop, Bridge St., Westport (098 26816) or by contacting Cliara Development Co. on 098 26525/cliaracdp@eircom.net.
